The twenty first century has brought a lot of dynamism within the Library and Information Science profession. Traditionally, libraries were collections of books, manuscripts, journals, and other sources of recorded information. services.In the modern context the terms digital library and virtual library are used to refer to the vast collections of information to which people gain access remotely. The technological advancement and its application to libraries have brought a lot of changes in the roles of library information science professionals as well as the way of delivering services to the user community. The tremendous increase of digital information throughout the world and changing mode of information seeking behavior of the users has been constantly insisting new changes in paradigm of librarianship. Thus the profession of librarianship must learn specific technical skills along with other professional and personal skills to adapt the changes in the new electronic information environment. The librarian of the new digital era must be capable of working in the hybrid world of print and electronic media and providing the best mix of information resources in the most appropriate formats for the users.This National Seminar on the theme “Current Trends and Practices in Librarianship” will enhance the knowledge level of the participants about the advanced tools and technologies used in modern libraries and the skills required by the LIS professionals to serve the user community of this digital era with greatest satisfaction. The Seminar will highlight and aware the participants in better understanding of skills and ethics involved in modern Librarianship and how to tackle realistic issues with the acquired skills. The core objective of the seminar is to review the trends in the librarianship from the traditional concept to the modern approach.
